Chariots of Fire

Chariots of fire are an ancient image in the Bible. The prophet Elisa saw his master Elijah taken to heaven by a chariot of fire when farewell time had come. The prophet Ezekiel had a vision of a heavenly chariot carried by four angelic creatures. It inspired the Swiss writer Erich Von Däniken to write his fairly speculative but highly original book called Chariots of the Gods?

The 'chariot of fire' metaphor stands for the crossing of the forbidden border between heaven and earth. Leaving this valley of tears, exceeding one’s limits, and proceeding to paradise is an ancient dream of humankind. In a certain way mankind is succeeding in fulfilling its old dream. Chariots of fire are leaving Earth every week now. Rockets are launched by the thousands. In this era of space travel, humans are lifting themselves up to the unimaginable realm of the angels.

With this blog, I also want to pay a tribute to Vangelis, who left us in his chariot of fire two months ago.
